Concentration Of Mind

One day Swami Vivekananda was strolling on the bank of a river. He saw some young men standing on a bridge aiming at the balls floating in the waves of water.

All the balls were tied to a thread. A stone was tied on the other end due to which they could not be swept away by the flow of water. For a long time Swamiji was standing and smiling seeing the unsuccessful attempts of those young men.

Due to the waves those balls were constantly moving here and there. Hence the aim was not accurate. In reality the task was very difficult. One young man saw Swamiji smiling. He said in a sarcastic voice, "You are laughing at us. But aiming is not an easy task. If you have the ability then you yourself aim and show it."

Swami Vivekananda said smiling in the same natural manner, "Let me also try brother."

That young man saw with surprise that Swamiji showed successful aiming not on one or two but on almost all the balls continuously. Now the youth were astonished at his talent. All of them said in one voice, "It seems that you are a successful marksman." A smile again danced on Swami Vivekananda's face. He said, "No brother, I have picked up a gun for the first time in my life." Then he said, "The success of hitting the target depends more on concentration of mind than practice."
